The safety protection role of fire-resistant cables in important buildings is mainly reflected in ensuring the operation of emergency power supply systems. In modern buildings, equipment such as fire pumps, smoke exhaust fans, emergency lighting, and fire elevators are vital for personnel evacuation and firefighting rescue during a fire.

As special cables ensuring the safety of power supply in the event of a fire, fire-resistant cables reflect a high degree of importance placed on the safety of life and property through their structural design and fire-resistant mechanism. Structurally, fire-resistant cables typically employ a multi-layered protective structure, with a fire-resistant insulation layer, a fire-resistant barrier layer, and an outer sheath around the conductor. The fire-resistant insulation layer uses high-temperature resistant materials such as mica tape and ceramicized silicone rubber, maintaining electrical insulation performance under high-temperature flames and preventing short circuits between conductors. The fire-resistant barrier layer is made of copper, aluminum, or steel tape, providing both mechanical protection and effectively preventing the spread of flames into the cable. The outer sheath uses low-smoke, halogen-free flame-retardant materials, producing less smoke and releasing no corrosive gases during combustion, which is beneficial for personnel evacuation and fire rescue. Some fire-resistant cables also employ a mineral insulation structure, using magnesium oxide powder as the insulation material and copper tubing as the sheath, allowing for continuous power supply at temperatures close to the melting point of copper.

The fire-resistant mechanism of fire-resistant cables demonstrates their unique performance under fire conditions. When a fire occurs, the organic insulation material of ordinary cables rapidly burns and decomposes, losing its insulating properties and causing circuit interruption. Fire-resistant cables, however, form a ceramic-like protective shell in their fire-resistant layer at high temperatures, maintaining insulation between conductors and ensuring continuous power transmission. Mineral-insulated cables do not undergo chemical changes at high temperatures, maintaining a stable insulation resistance. The fire resistance of fire-resistant cables is typically verified through fire resistance tests, which demonstrate that the cable can operate continuously for a certain period without breakdown under rated voltage and current conditions in a fire at a specified temperature. Based on their fire resistance rating, fire-resistant cables are classified into Class A and Class B, corresponding to different fire resistance requirements over different time periods. These characteristics make fire-resistant cables a crucial element in ensuring the safety of power supply to fire-fighting equipment.

The power supply lines for these devices must be able to maintain normal operation under fire conditions. Fire-resistant cables are specialized products designed to meet this need, and are laid in densely populated areas such as high-rise buildings, large shopping malls, hospitals, schools, subways, and airports. In the event of a fire, ordinary cables may fail due to flame damage, while fire-resistant cables can provide continuous power for a specified period, ensuring the normal activation and operation of fire-fighting equipment, buying valuable time for evacuation, and creating favorable conditions for fire rescue. Through the proper selection and standardized installation of fire-resistant cables, the fire safety level of important buildings can be effectively improved.
