Through a scientific technical standard system and reasonable engineering design selection, it can be ensured that fire-resistant cables play their due role in safety protection in various types of buildings, providing reliable protection for fire safety.
The technical standard system for fire-resistant cables provides a scientific basis for product quality control and engineering applications. Different fire resistance ratings meet the diverse needs of various buildings. my country's fire-resistant cable standards clearly stipulate the product's structural dimensions, material properties, fire resistance characteristics, smoke density, and corrosivity, ensuring reliable safety performance. Fire resistance rating is the core technical indicator of fire-resistant cables, usually classified according to the temperature and time of the fire resistance test. Class A fire-resistant cables are required to withstand a flame of 950 to 1000 degrees Celsius, applying rated voltage continuously for 180 minutes without breakdown; Class B fire-resistant cables are required to maintain circuit integrity for 90 minutes continuously in a flame of 750 to 800 degrees Celsius. In addition, there are composite products such as fire-resistant and flame-retardant, and fire-resistant and low-smoke halogen-free, meeting more comprehensive safety requirements.
In engineering design, the selection principles for fire-resistant cables should comprehensively consider factors such as building type, fire resistance rating, importance of the power supply system, and laying environment. For locations with extremely high fire safety requirements, such as super high-rise buildings, large underground spaces, and important public facilities, Class A fire-resistant cables are typically selected to ensure that critical equipment can still function normally in the event of a severe fire. For general high-rise buildings and large commercial venues, Class B fire-resistant cables can meet fire safety regulations, ensuring basic safety while reasonably controlling costs. For buildings equipped with automatic sprinkler systems, ordinary flame-retardant cables can be used in combination with other fire protection measures, and fire-resistant cables are not necessarily required. During the design process, attention should also be paid to the coordination of fire-resistant cables with other fire protection measures, such as the selection of cable laying paths and the installation of fire-stopping barriers, to form a complete safety protection system.
The selection of fire-resistant cables should also consider the comprehensive performance of the product, including electrical performance, mechanical performance, and environmental characteristics. High-quality fire-resistant cables should have good current-carrying capacity to meet the needs of normal equipment operation; they should have sufficient mechanical strength to withstand bending and installation requirements during laying; and they should use low-smoke halogen-free materials to reduce the generation of harmful gases during a fire. While meeting fire resistance requirements, the economic efficiency of the cable should also be considered, selecting appropriate specifications and grades based on actual needs to avoid cost waste due to over-design. For renovation projects, the selection of fire-resistant cables must also consider existing laying conditions and space limitations, choosing appropriate structures and outer diameters. Through a scientific technical standard system and reasonable engineering design selection, it can be ensured that fire-resistant cables play their due role in safety protection in various types of buildings, providing reliable protection for fire safety.
